Job Summary
The State of Rhode Island is hiring a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) for a contract position. This role involves performing routine occupational therapy treatments on patients and clients under the direction of a Registered Occupational Therapist (OTR). The COTA will work in a supportive role to assist in achieving patient therapeutic goals. Hours are generally Monday-Friday, but flexibility is required.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine occupational therapy treatment procedures as determined by an OTR.
- Assist with the preparation of occupational therapy treatment modalities.
- Contribute to the development of individual patient evaluation and treatment plans.
- Monitor and assess patient performance and progress, reporting observations to the OTR.
- Recommend the modification or termination of treatment services to the OTR.
- Instruct patients in the appropriate use of adaptive devices.
- Maintain safety precautions and keep treatment areas in good order.
- Prepare and maintain accurate treatment records.
- Participate and report at team conferences.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Education: Graduation from a certified occupational therapy assistant program approved by the American Occupational Therapy Certification Board.
- Experience: One (1) year of employment in an occupational therapy program within a public or private hospital, rehabilitation center, or similar institution.
Knowledge, Skills, and Capabilities:
- Familiarity with occupational therapy treatment, equipment, and precautions.
- Capability to follow specific oral and written directions from registered occupational therapists and medical staff.
- Ability to assist the registered occupational therapist in achieving patient goals.
- Proficiency in preparing and maintaining treatment records.
- Ability to report on patient status as necessary.
