Correctional Medical Management is seeking a charge nurse to join our team at the Minnehaha County Jail. The charge nurse will provide leadership, direction, coordination, and administration to the nursing team and manage medical unit operations.
Responsibilities
- Collaborates with Clinical Management Team to assist in creating and implementing policies, practices and protocols relevant to the nursing staff’s provision of healthcare in the medical unit
- Assess, evaluate, document and direct nursing activities on an assigned shift to provide quality care to patients, in compliance with prescribed standards and in conjunction with nursing management
- Participates in the hiring, new hire on-boarding training, supervision, performance counseling and annual evaluations of nursing staff
- Identifies staff development needs and implements continuing education programs and on-going training
- Schedules and implements daily clinic operations, assigns nursing personnel to provide direct patient care and coordinates and ensures adequate staffing levels
- Creates workplans for staff and oversees the distribution of work assignments/duties ensuring all work tasks are completed successfully
- Interprets policies and procedures to nursing staff
- Participates in staff meetings and provides regular input to the nursing staff
- Maintains, evaluates and oversees record keeping processes
- Develops and oversees quality improvement projects
- Collaborates with teammates with various medical backgrounds, outside professionals/facilities and corrections staff
- Provides consultation, makes recommendations, gives appropriate advice and makes decisions pertaining to medical unit operations
- Reviews and responds to patient and outside agency correspondence
- Completes medication prior authorizations
- All other duties as assigned
Other Responsibilities
- Completes required orientation as directed by facility
- Follows facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures while on assignment
- Upholds HIPAA regulations
- Respects cultural and religious practices of patients
- Punctual and dependent for assigned/confirmed shifts
- Plan, organize, supervise and evaluate the work of nursing staff
- Prepare reports and maintain accurate records
Position Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing program
- Must hold a current and valid Registered Nurse license
- Licensure must be in good standing with the State licensing board
- Current BLS certification
Preferred Requirements
- Minimum of two (2) years of proven experience in leadership/management roles
- Must have an in-depth knowledge of nursing theories, principles, methods and practices

Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
