Job Description
Position Summary:
The Demurrage Analyst is responsible for the accurate and timely review, issuance, negotiation, and settlement of demurrage claims associated with tanker and barge voyages. In addition, is responsible for maximizing demurrage recovery while maintaining compliance with all PCIA values. The Demurrage Analyst provides direct support to various business desks, including but not limited to Operations and Chartering on all demurrage matters.
Key Responsibilities:
- Charter Party analysis with strong comprehension and interpretations of c/p clauses
- Review demurrage voyage documents and clarify events with Operations, chartering, agents, etc.
- Prepare receivable claims for supplier / receiver under relevant terms and conditions using detailed analysis and understanding of Trading contracts for all product types; including any other contracts that may develop as the business expands
- Communicate and negotiate settlement with external business partners to achieve the best resolution for the company
- Monitor settlement of claims and aging receivables, following up with counterparties regularly
- Review payable claims for validity and accuracy to determine if they are consistent with the contracts, time logs, and operators notes. Dispute/Negotiate inaccurate claims
- Reporting outstanding receivables/payables as requested
- Prepare demurrage payments
- Provide backup for other demurrage analyst(s)
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Maritime/Marine Transportation, Shipping or relevant focus
- 5+ years of related experience especially regarding time charter, spot and barge demurrage is preferred
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Strong organization and attention to detail
- Ability to quickly learn new skills and grasp new concepts
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills
