Job Summary:
The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing routine office medical care, patient flow management, recordkeeping, follow-up, and patient education. The M.A. works under the supervision of a Physician, Registered Nurse, or LPN.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Patient Preparation : Check vital signs, weight, and height. Perform clinical and lab procedures.
- Administer Injections : Administer injections and vaccines as directed.
- Vision Screening : Perform routine vision screenings.
- Safety Practices : Implement safety, environmental, and infection control methods.
- Exam Room Maintenance : Clean exam rooms after each visit and at the end of the day.
- Record Updates : Update patient medication lists and medical histories in EMR.
- Immunization Records : Update and research immunization records for child visits.
- Supply Management : Keep exam rooms stocked with necessary medical supplies.
- Equipment Preparation : Ensure medical equipment is in good working order.
- Patient Communication : Call patients with lab results and reports.
- Team Participation : Participate in multidisciplinary teams to improve patient care.
- Appointment Scheduling : Schedule appointments for patients.
- Pharmaceutical Assistance : Help indigent patients with pharmaceutical applications.
- Additional Duties : Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience :
- M.A. certification, graduation from an accredited program, or 5+ years of experience.
Language :
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills preferred.
Performance Requirements :
- Knowledge : Clinical practices, medical equipment, EMR systems, and healthcare information laws.
- Skills : Practical problem-solving.
- Abilities : Follow medical staff orders, communicate effectively with patients and families, administer drug dosages, manage time, maintain records, and act in emergencies.
Equipment Operated :
- Standard medical equipment (e.g., syringes, stethoscopes, scales) and computer proficiency.
Work Environment :
- Medical exam/treatment rooms with controlled settings and potential exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards.
Physical Requirements :
- Standing, walking, kneeling, bending, lifting (up to 50 pounds), and using a computer and office equipment. Must be able to read screens, printed materials, and communicate effectively in person and over the phone. Stress can be a component due to workload or specific cases.
