Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented coding specialist to join our team! In this role, you will accurately and efficiently access a variety of specialty physician billing and health information systems to gather all necessary records, ensuring proper coding and billing for professional physician and mid-level services.
Remote Work Availability:
Candidates can work remotely from Florida, Georgia, Arizona, Texas, or Alabama.
Key Responsibilities:
Review medical records and accurately code physician services using the latest ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems.
Code diagnoses, co-morbidities, complications, therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, supplies, materials, injections, and medications in accordance with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS standards.
Verify billable physician services by ensuring physician documentation adheres to federal "Physician at Teaching Hospital" regulations.
Communicate any issues or trends found in a healthcare provider's documentation to your Senior Coder for evaluation and follow-up.
Collaborate with specialty team members to monitor financial goals, ensuring we meet our corporate objectives.
Assist the Central Business Office with follow-up on patient accounts to maximize reimbursements, including addressing insurance denials.
Maintain effective communication with physicians, physician extenders, physician offices, the coding team, and management.
Utilize available resources to support accurate coding practices while maintaining patient confidentiality.
Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Achieve and maintain a 90% accuracy rate in coding tasks.
Attend departmental and other meetings as scheduled.
Ensure regular and punctual attendance in line with organizational policies and standards.
Comply with all organizational policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
Education/Training:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Proficient computer and typing skills; knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is required.
Thorough understanding of CPT and ICD coding, as demonstrated by a coding skills test score of 80% or higher.
Licensure/Certification:
One of the following national certifications is required:
Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through the American Academy of Professional Coders
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)
Certified Coding Specialist-Physician (CCS-P) through AHIMA
Certified Coding Associate (CCA) through AHIMA
Certified Medical Coder (CMC) through Practice Management Institute
Experience:
A minimum of three (3) years of certified coding experience in professional or physician practice coding is required.
Proficiency in multi-specialty E/M coding and minor bedside procedure coding is preferred; knowledge of surgical coding is a plus.
