Job summary: This position will support the execution of the Chamber’s contract with the county’s Tourist Development Council by managing and promoting the Ponte Vedra Visitor Information Center; by curating tourism content for ExperiencePonteVedra.com and associated websites; and by supporting the autism certification grant program for St. Johns County tourism and hospitality businesses. The Tourism Development & Communications Specialist will also support the Chamber’s marketing and communication efforts by managing and supporting key communication channels and messaging for the organization, including social media, emails, website content, press releases and other marketing materials, to promote the Chamber's events, initiatives and member businesses to the local community.
Job Duties
Tourism development
- Serve as the primary contact for visitors and callers to the Visitor Information Center (VIC) by providing information about local attractions, accommodations, dining, events, and activities.
- Enhance and maintain the appearance of the VIC and ensure cross-department adherence to VIC policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and Communications to develop and execute a promotional plan for the VIC.
- Promote the Autism Matching Grant program to local businesses, and collaborate with the certifying organization and Chamber staff and volunteers to identify prospects.
- Manage content on ExperiencePonteVedra.com and associated channels, as well as tourism content on sjcchamber.com.
- Identify content opportunities with tourism websites and other channels, including videos, social media, print material, and press releases.
- Collaborate with tourism partners, such as Visit Florida and St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra & The Beaches Visitors & Convention Bureau, to pitch Ponte Vedra experiences for press events, tours, interviews and promotional opportunities.
- Collect and maintain visitor data to identify trends and improve services.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reports for Chamber leadership and the Tourist Development Council.
Marketing and communications
- Implement communication strategies to keep members informed of Chamber activities, benefits, and opportunities.
- Manage and maintain the Chamber’s social media channels by developing, editing, curating, and repurposing content, including graphics and videos, to engage followers creatively.
- Develop marketing collateral, such as advertisements, flyers, brochures, and promotional materials, adhering to brand standards.
- Create and send member email newsletters, ensuring timely and relevant content.
- Collaborate with the membership team to support member recruitment and retention efforts.
- Work closely with the Events Manager to promote Chamber and Chamber Foundation events and programs, including producing promotional materials, advertising, and public relations efforts.
- Ensure cross-department adherence to Chamber brand standards and communications calendar.
Skills and Qualifications
- Familiarity with St. Johns County and surrounding areas, including attractions, events and services, or willingness to learn.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate with a diverse audience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey information clearly and effectively.
- Strong problem-solving and research skills.
- Ability to collect and analyze data across multiple platforms to improve services and make informed decisions.
- Collaborative spirit and ability to work with a variety of stakeholders from local government, the community and Chamber staff and volunteers.
- Ability to take decisive action and work independently with minimal oversight.
- High level proficiency in: Microsoft Office products; Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and Photoshop; Social media management; WordPress-based CMS
- Amateur proficiency in: Videography and editing software (iMovie or similar); Photography
